This Week's Happenings

This past weekend was our bi-annual PWS Families Picnic. All the children in this picture have PWS. We have known most of them since they were born. Their families are some of our closest friends. We get lots of encouragement for the PWS journey when we're together.

Christina's friends Evan and Ally. E&A were in cribs NEXT TO EACH OTHER in the NICU when they were born and got their diagnosises one day apart. What a "coincidence."

Another exciting event this week - Christina performed in a dance program. She has been taking a little dance class at a local ministry. The focus is on glorifying and worshipping the Lord through dance. Nana got to come - she and I both had moments where we couldn't hold back the tears as we watched the girls and a few adults dancing before our Father.

All ready to dance!

We went to the State Capitol this week to witness the Governor signing a proclamation declaring the month of May as PWS Awareness Month.

Our visit really got me excited about history. This was a quote on a statue outside the building. It says "Give us the fortitude which, through the cloud of gloom and sorrow of apparent failure, can see the distant pinnacles upon which the everlasting sunlight rests." I think sunlight should be spelled SONlight :-)

The girls outside. I only remember going to the Capitol once with Lee when Lamar (Whit) was a State Representative. I was about 10 years old.

Christina and her buddy Taylor holding the Proclamation.

Governor Purdue obviously loves children. His assistant said he has something like ten grandchildren. He immediately invited the kids to sit on his desk. I know he's a politician and having kids on your desk makes for a great picture, but I could sense that he truly was enjoying them.

The Capitol was built in 1889. It really is an amazing building to be over 100 years old and mostly unchanged since that time.

More to come as we approach the last two weeks of school and all the fun that surrounds it.

Thanks for the update on your exciting events of the week. Looks like it was busy! How cool that you got to see Gov. Purdue!!
The capital is on my "must do" list for field trips next year!
